Role Overview

As a Freight & Customs Operations Specialist, you are a central interface between internal departments, suppliers, freight forwarders, and customs service providers. You ensure that international shipments are processed on time, cost-effectively, and in compliance with regulations. In doing so, you make an important contribution to ensuring smooth supply chains and actively drive the continuous optimization of our processes.
You benefit from a home office arrangement of two days per month.

What you can achieve

• Coordination of international shipments with freight forwarders, carriers, customs agents, suppliers, and internal stakeholders
• Control of the entire shipment process from collection to delivery
• Support for AOG (Aircraft on Ground), express, and time-critical shipments, including operational tracking, ensuring documentation readiness, and escalation if necessary
• Support of customs and foreign trade activities by ensuring complete and compliant shipping documentation before shipment
• Support in subcontracting processes and logistical supplier workflows, including supplier readiness and documentation requirements
• Monitoring of transport services, freight costs, and operational risks, as well as escalation of problems if necessary
• Support of regional and cross-site goods flows outside of Basel, if required
• Review of basic customs documents and requirements, including commercial invoices, packing lists, HS codes (customs tariff numbers), statements of origin, goods values, Incoterms, as well as import and export reasons
• Escalation of complex topics related to customs, VAT, export control, or foreign trade compliance to the responsible internal experts
• Support with temporary imports and exports, repair and return processes, subcontracting workflows, as well as special customs procedures
• Support of customs clearance activities and collaboration with internal experts on complex compliance issues
• Participation in reporting, KPI monitoring, cost control, and the checking of freight invoices
• Participation in process improvements as well as in the development of standardized freight and customs processes

Your Profile

• Training or background in logistics, supply chain management, international trade, customs, or a related field
• At least 5 years of professional experience in the areas of freight forwarding, transport coordination, customs support, or international logistics
• Strong communication skills as well as experience in collaborating with internal stakeholders, suppliers, freight forwarders, and customs agents
• Good knowledge of international freight processes, import/export transactions, and customs requirements
• Experience in the areas of air freight, time-critical transport, aerospace, MRO (Maintenance, Repair & Overhaul), manufacturing, or high-value goods is an advantage
• Ability to identify and escalate risks, delays, cost risks, or compliance concerns early on
• Knowledge in the area of Value Added Tax (VAT), export control, dual-use goods, sanctions, or special customs procedures is an advantage
• Familiarity with Incoterms, commercial invoices, packing lists, HS codes, and international trade requirements
• Experience in collaborating with freight forwarders, customs agents, suppliers, and cross-functional teams
• Very good Excel skills; experience with SAP, Power BI, or freight management systems is a plus
• High reliability in the tracking of tasks as well as strong attention to detail
• Structured, reliable, and careful way of working
• Business fluent English skills; German skills are expressly preferred.
