Portfolio Analyst — European and Asian Gas Markets
The Portfolio Analyst role provides fundamental research and quantitative analysis to support a commodity trading desk, specialising in energy commodities. The role combines physical market expertise, coding and commercial judgement to inform trading and portfolio decisions.

Key responsibilities
Analyse and forecast gas supply, demand, storage and LNG flows.
Assess LNG cargo economics, infrastructure constraints and regional pricing relationships.
Evaluate weather, geopolitical developments and supply disruptions and their implications for portfolio risks.
Develop Python and SQL models to automate analysis, forecasting and reporting.
Communicate findings to traders and portfolio managers through reports, dashboards and discussions.
Translate research into actionable market views and trading recommendations.

Qualifications and experience
Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Economics, Mathematics, Statistics, Engineering or a related quantitative discipline; a relevant master’s degree is desirable.
CFA qualification, or progress towards the charter, is advantageous.
5–7 years of relevant experience on the physical side of gas and LNG markets, ideally at a utility, energy producer or physical commodity merchant.
Demonstrated experience applying physical market knowledge to forecasting, commercial analysis and trading decisions.

Technical skills
Strong Python coding skills, including pandas and NumPy, for data analysis, modelling and automation.
Proficiency in SQL for extracting, combining and validating large datasets.
Experience integrating APIs and building reliable data pipelines.
Practical knowledge of statistical modelling, econometrics, time-series forecasting and scenario analysis.
Ability to validate models and maintain documented, reproducible code using version control.
