METAS – or Federal Institute of Metrology – is the reference institute in Switzerland for measurements and measuring instruments. To ensure that a litre is always a litre (for example when you refuel), METAS performs calibrations, conformity assessments and provides advice to the economy, research and administration. A source of trust, notably on a social and political level, metrological accuracy is indispensable in many fields: road traffic, electricity billing, dissemination of time, measurements for the environment and health, etc. Needless to say that at METAS, disciplines have been side by side and in dialogue since 1862.

Your new challenges

• lead the internal service responsible for all matters relating to national and international metrological law and ensure legal advice, particularly in matters of administrative law, contract law and procedural law
• draft and verify contracts, legal positions and reports, particularly on behalf of the management
• lead the Law department and its two employees regarding specialized subjects, finances, personnel and organization
• lead legislative projects in the field of metrology and contribute to the evolution of the legal framework, provide your support for positions within the framework of office consultations
• conduct procedures as well as draft decisions and requests addressed to the courts

Your profile

• university degree in law and, ideally, additional qualification such as bar admission, doctorate or foreign degree (e.g.
• at least 10 years of professional experience within a court, an administration or a law firm; in-depth knowledge of the legal procedures of the federal administration, proven expertise in public law and experience in matters of legislation and collaboration with Swiss and foreign authorities
• skills in management, communication and negotiation, team spirit, sense of diplomacy and political intuition; search for solutions with, always, the results in view, conceptual and systemic thinking and taste for interdisciplinary collaboration; ability to manage pressure while keeping your cool even in case of tight deadlines
• excellent writing skills in at least one official language, good active mastery of a second official language and English, and, if possible, passive knowledge of a third official language
• responsible and pragmatic personality, sense of customer service
