The Trägerverein für die offene Jugendarbeit der Stadt Bern (toj) offers youth centers and other services for young people between 12 and 22 years old in 5 districts. The toj employs around 35 employees in various functions and salary classes. We are a performance contract partner of the Stadt Bern with a few additional mandates from other funders. You can find out more about our organization at www.toj.ch For districts 2 and 3, we are looking for a Team Leader Team Bern Mitte (70%) per October 1, 2026 (or by arrangement) ## Would you like to lead a young, dynamic, and innovative team, set up participatory socio-cultural projects according to needs, work together with the team on the services and projects, and advocate for young people in the Stadt Bern? Then you are exactly right with us! Your tasks You lead the Mitte team in districts 2 and 3 with approx. 9 employees, students in training, and interns. You are responsible for the operation of the youth facilities (1 youth house, 2 youth centers, as well as various mobile services) as well as for the need-based services and projects in the districts and actively participate in them as part of the team. You undertake project management (incl. fundraising) of innovative projects and are responsible for cooperation and networking with other organizations in the districts and the city administration. You advocate for the development of better framework conditions for young people in the Stadt Bern. You bear responsibility for communication and the financial and resource planning of districts 2 and 3. You design toj-internal training and workshops together with the head office. As a member of the executive management body, you work together with the managing director and the team leaders of the other districts to develop professional and target-group-oriented foundations and concepts for strategic orientation (in the areas of personnel management, public relations, procurement, and distribution of funds). Your profile You have many years of professional experience in working with young people (ideally in the context of open youth work) and/or in the socio-cultural sector and are interested in the life worlds of adolescents and young adults. You have already gained leadership experience and supplemented it with leadership training or are prepared to complete it. We are also happy to receive your application if, in addition to the mentioned professional experience, you have been able to acquire leadership competence within the framework of complex project management. You have experience in the planning, management, and evaluation of projects and services, including budget responsibility. You move confidently in the tension between high personal responsibility in achieving goals and the implementation of overarching strategic and political requirements, and you are characterized by initiative, innovative strength, and a good understanding of administrative processes. You continuously engage with social developments as well as trends and topics. You understand leadership as a supportive and participatory task. You actively involve the professional competence of your team in your decisions and create framework conditions in which cooperation and co-creation succeed. You are aware that services and projects of open youth work also include work in the evenings and on weekends and bring the corresponding temporal flexibility.
