LUSTAT Statistik Luzern is the competence and service center for public statistics in the Canton of Luzern. For our Population, Economy and Space (BWR) team, we are looking for a technically savvy and curious personality who processes technical questions together with different specialists and develops reliable, traceable data science solutions from them. In the BWR area, we show how the population and economy are developing in the Canton of Luzern, how land and natural resources are used, and how public finances are presented. In doing so, we create comparable statistical foundations for monitoring and planning.
Your tasks
• You are responsible for at least one subject area technically and ensure representation for several others.
• You answer inquiries and cover the information needs of the administration, population, parliament, media, and other interest groups.
• Together with the specialists involved, you develop sound analyses and data products and accompany their technical implementation until productive use.
• You develop reproducible data pipelines as well as statistical models and procedures and, together with the team, transform suitable approaches into reliably usable solutions to make data analyses transparent and traceable.
• You develop structured and tested code, predominantly in R, and contribute to reusable packages and components. Git, code reviews, and automated tests are part of your daily development work.
• You explore and assess data sources, pay attention to data quality and traceability, and communicate methods, assumptions, and results in an understandable way, also to non-technical stakeholders.
Your profile
• You have a Master's degree in Data Science, Computer Science, Statistics, Mathematics, Economics, Computational Science, or a comparable quantitative field.
• You have practical experience in Data Science, Data Engineering, or Scientific Software Engineering and have already independently implemented data analyses, data pipelines, models, or comparable data solutions.
• You have sound knowledge of statistics, data modeling, and data quality.
• You are very proficient in R and/or Python and can use them to develop structured, tested, and maintainable code.
• You know the basic practices of professional software development. Git-based collaboration, code reviews, and automated tests are familiar to you.
• You have experience in coordinating projects or in collaborating with different technical disciplines and stakeholders.
