Technical Documentation Specialist (60% - all identities and backgrounds*) in Zürich
Your team and your work
You will become part of the ROAM circle, which is responsible for the operation and further development of eduroam at Switch. In addition, the circle manages other services related to access management, authentication, and digital identities. The circle works collaboratively and agilely. Collaboration takes place mainly in German. Documentations are created in both German and English. In this generalist-oriented role, you combine technical writing with operational tasks, technical understanding, and exchange with universities and other stakeholders.
The 60% workload also makes the position attractive for students, career starters, those re-entering the workforce after a break, or persons who deliberately want to work part-time. For us, curiosity, willingness to learn, and interest in technical topics are what matter most.
These are your main responsibilities in this role:
Creation, maintenance, and continuous improvement of technical documentation, user manuals, architecture overviews, and specifications for eduroam and related services
Translation of complex technical contexts into understandable and target-group-oriented content for universities (their IT departments) and other stakeholders
Ensuring documentation quality as well as compliance with internal specifications in the areas of information security, data protection, enterprise architecture, and compliance
Close collaboration with engineers, software architects, and product owners to document knowledge sustainably and make it accessible
Supporting the operation of eduroam for universities and partner institutions as well as performing standardized operational tasks
Creation of technical announcements, training materials, newsletters, and other communication formats for different target groups
Participation in the evaluation of new technologies, services, and solution approaches as well as support with concepts, project proposals, and innovation projects
Participation in audits, certifications, and other activities for quality assurance
What you should bring
Education (Uni, FH, HF or EFZ) in a relevant field. You either bring a technical background with an interest in communication and documentation, or a background in communication, media, journalism, or languages with a pronounced interest in technical topics. Comparable combinations of education and practical experience are also welcome
Initial practical experience through professional activity, studies, internships, training projects, or personal projects that show you can understand technical topics and convey them understandably
Pronounced interest in technology and the willingness to combine technical writing with operational and technical tasks
Ability to understand complex technical topics, question them critically, and prepare them understandably
Analytical and structured way of working as well as enjoyment in exploring new topics independently
High initiative, willingness to learn, and motivation to familiarize yourself with different technical subject areas
Very good German and English skills in speaking and writing
Not strictly necessary, but we are pleased if you already bring experience or knowledge in one or more of the following areas:
Knowledge in the area of Identity & Access Management (IAM)
Understanding of network and authentication technologies
Initial experience with software engineering or technical system architectures
