We are looking for an early-career research scientist.

You will take open, vaguely defined problems from the initial question to a functional, validated, and defensible result. This is practical applied research: you will be responsible for the problem end-to-end, build the solution yourself, and be responsible for the validity of the evidence.

What you will do

• Take charge of end-to-end applied machine learning research problems: formulate the question, assemble and clean the data, choose and implement the method, evaluate it honestly, and reach a defensible conclusion.
• Build and validate models on real, messy data, paying rigorous attention to data quality, data leakage, regime shifts, and true out-of-sample performance.
• Implement methods from first principles if necessary, in Python and, if applicable, in a compiled or systems language.
• Design evaluation setups and benchmarks so that your own results, as well as those of the team, are reproducible and falsifiable rather than merely asserted.
• Clearly communicate your reasoning and results to technical and non-technical colleagues, and independently reproduce and test teammates' results under pressure.
• Work collaboratively in a small, dense team, and improve the way the team works, not just your own output.
