Apprenticeship Laboratory Technician EFZ, Biology specialty, Agrobiology focus (August 2027)

As a Laboratory Technician EFZ, Biology specialty, Agrobiology focus, you will work in the laboratory and in the greenhouse in a team with scientists on the development of new plant protection products. The training offers you a deep insight into the natural sciences and lays the foundation for the agricultural solutions of tomorrow. At the interface of biology, chemistry, and agricultural science, a highly versatile area of responsibility awaits you.

You will work daily with a great biological diversity and research the interaction between crops and their natural adversaries such as weeds, harmful insects, mites, as well as fungi and bacteria.

Under the guidance of experienced specialists, you will learn step by step how to independently cultivate these organisms and plan, conduct, and evaluate scientific experimental series. You will test new active ingredients and molecules for their properties and interactions, operate state-of-the-art measuring devices, and carefully analyze the data obtained.

Through the use of modern technologies and precise working methods, you will make a valuable contribution to sustainable agriculture even during your training.

• Higher requirement level Sekundarschule or Bezirksschule, Mittlere Reife (D) or other higher school levels
• German as a native language or at C1 level as well as very good English skills
• Great interest in natural sciences and biological contexts
• Very good powers of observation as well as logical and critical thinking skills
• Joy in mathematics
• Endurance and concentration
• Precise, reliable, and independent way of working
• Team spirit for collaboration in diverse teams
• No known predispositions for allergies (due to daily contact with plants and biological organisms)

The vocational school is in Winterthur (ZH) and the intercompany courses take place at the ETH location in Schlieren (ZH).
