The Justizvollzugsanstalt Witzwil executes sentences and measures on 184 adult men in open prison and in administrative detention under foreign law regulations. The inmates are guided and promoted in various professions in agriculture, trade, and supply according to work-agogic principles. In the penal system, approximately 140 employees work consistently towards the goal of reintegration and reduction of recidivism of the admitted persons. Production goals and execution goals do not compete, but rather complement each other.
The Admissions Department accompanies newly arriving admitted persons during their first execution phase until their assignment to a regular workplace. The interdisciplinary team creates important foundations for the further stay through structured potential assessment.

Your tasks

As a specialist in the Admissions Department, you accompany newly arriving admitted persons during the admission phase. You conduct anamnesis interviews, analyze relevant files, and record resources, areas for development, support needs, and internal risks through structured observation and suitable assessment methods. From this, you develop internal reports with initial goals and practice-related recommendations for further execution planning, care, promotion, and employment. Furthermore, you participate in the internal workplace assignment as well as the transfers into the subsequent execution areas.
In the daily work of the Admissions Department, you supervise and support the admitted persons and use the various work and learning fields specifically for your assessment work.
As a member of an interdisciplinary team, you actively contribute your own professional perspective to the joint clarification and assessment and participate in the further development of the Admissions Department. In addition, you take on professional and additional tasks depending on need and support further operational tasks within the framework of available resources.

Your profile

You have training in social pedagogy, social work, or work-agogics and ideally several years of professional experience in the penal system or in a comparable institutional environment.
You bring experience in working with people with complex psychosocial problems and psychological abnormalities as well as in professional interviewing skills. You work convincingly according to the principles of work-agogics and encounter intercultural issues with openness and professional security.
As a resilient, stable, and capable of criticism personality, you maintain a clear head even in demanding situations. You appreciate a versatile working environment and are open to using your resources flexibly depending on the workload.
You have very good German skills in speaking and writing as well as good oral French skills and good French reading comprehension. English skills and further language skills are an advantage. You are proficient in using digital work and documentation systems and are open to new applications.

About the Amt für Justizvollzug

The Amt für Justizvollzug (AJV) is responsible for the open and closed execution of sentences and measures for adults and youths within the Sicherheitsdirektion of the Canton of Bern (SID), with around 1000 employees. To fulfill this task, the office has at its disposal four concordat correctional facilities, four regional prisons, the detention station at the Inselspital, the detention management center, as well as probation and execution services.
