Geneva (and home office) | 80-90% The contribution you can make <br /> • Ensure operational service (24 hours a day, 7 days a week) in the functions of "Aeronautical Meteorological Forecaster" (AMF) and "Public Weather Service Forecaster" (PWS-F) • Ensure meteorological monitoring, issuance of alerts, production of products and meteorological advice, as well as drafting and dissemination of documents for specific users according to the work plan and instructions • Communicate with our clients and partners, providing them with advice and support in the decision-making process • Ensure the function of head of service and, in this capacity, be responsible for the proper execution of the entire production within the forecasting center • Write articles for the blog and contributions for social media and respond to media requests • Take on other related tasks, such as introducing and managing new services, forms of communication (including social networks), climate services and forecasting tools, working in close collaboration with other MeteoSvizzera divisions <br /> What distinguishes you <br /> • University degree (master) with in-depth knowledge of meteorology (for more details, see the requirements on MeteoSvizzera's website, \<\<Basic Instruction Package for Meteorologists\>\> (BIP-M) in accordance with WMO Manual 1083) • Ability to work in an operational service with irregular working hours (night shifts and weekends) and to collaborate within a team • Ability to make rapid relevant decisions, even in stressful situations • Excellent command of French, good active knowledge of German and passive knowledge of Italian. Due to linguistic uses in the international context, aviation and WMO regulations, good communication and writing skills in English are required • Excellent ability and interest in communication activities aimed at different audiences through various channels (media, blog, social network, briefing, etc.) • Additional qualifications appreciated: knowledge of programming languages oriented towards meteorology (e.g. Python), experience in scientific communication or journalism, experience in the aviation sector <br /> In summary As a meteorologist at the Western Regional Center in Geneva, you will be responsible for monitoring, forecasting and warning activities for French-speaking Switzerland and Valais. You will be responsible for producing and communicating forecasts and warnings for authorities, aviation and the general public, working closely with the other forecasting centers in Zurich and Locarno-Monti. In collaboration with various MeteoSvizzera divisions, you will also perform tasks outside of operational service. For example, you will ensure the implementation of new services and forms of communication, contribute to climate services or participate in the technical implementation of forecasting tools.
