Geneva (and home office) \| 80-90% This is what you can contribute <br /> • Ensure the operational service (around the clock, 7 days a week) in the functions "Aeronautical Meteorological Forecaster" (AMF) and "Public Weather Service Forecaster" (PWS-F) • Ensure weather observation, issuance of warnings, creation of weather products and recommendations, as well as creation and distribution of documents for specific users according to the work plan and instructions • Maintain communication with our customers and partner organizations and advise and support them in their decision-making • Take on the role of service manager and be responsible for the smooth operation of the entire production in the forecasting center • Write blog articles and posts for social media and respond to media inquiries • Take on additional tasks, such as those related to the introduction and operation of new services, communication forms (including social networks), climate services, and forecasting tools, in close cooperation with other departments of MeteoSchweiz <br /> What makes you unique <br /> • University degree (Master) with in-depth knowledge of meteorology (further details can be found under the requirements on the MeteoSchweiz website, "Basic Instruction Package for Meteorologists" (BIP-M) according to WMO Handbook No. 1083) • Ability to work in operational service with irregular working hours (night and weekend shifts) and in a team • Ability to make sound decisions quickly, even in stressful situations • Excellent French language skills, good active German language skills, and passive Italian language skills; due to international language practices in aviation and WMO regulations, good communication and writing skills in English are also required • Very good skills and interest in communication activities for various target groups through different channels (media, blogs, social networks, briefings, etc.) • Additional qualifications are an advantage: knowledge of meteorology-oriented programming languages (e.g. Python), experience in scientific or journalistic communication, experience in aviation <br /> In brief As a meteorologist in the Western Regional Center in Geneva, you are responsible for monitoring, forecasting, and warning for Western Switzerland and Valais. You are responsible for creating and distributing forecasts and warnings for authorities, aviation, and the general public, and work closely with the other forecasting centers in Zurich and Locarno-Monti. In cooperation with various departments of MeteoSchweiz, you also take on tasks outside of operational service, such as introducing new services and communication forms, contributing to climate services, or participating in the technical implementation of forecasting instruments.
