Paul Scherrer Institute PSI is the largest research institute in natural sciences and engineering in Switzerland. We conduct cutting-edge research in the fields of future technologies, energy and climate, health innovation and the foundations of nature. By conducting fundamental and applied research, we work on sustainable solutions to the great challenges facing society, science and the economy. PSI is committed to the training of future generations. Thus, approximately one quarter of our staff consists of post-doctoral researchers, doctoral students or apprentices. In total, PSI employs 2300 people.

For the bosonic quantum information group at PSI, we are looking for a

Your tasks

You will install, operate and maintain state-of-the-art control and measurement devices for quantum information processing with superconducting circuits, including dilution refrigerators and microwave frequency instruments. In addition, you will maintain and improve a nanofabrication process for high-coherence superconducting qubits in the PSI PICO cleanroom. Although it is a technical position, participation in the host group's projects, for example by fabricating test samples and qubit characterization experiments, will be strongly encouraged. You will have the opportunity to co-supervise Master's and semester students and to interact with a dynamic community of quantum researchers and technical experts.

Your profile

We are looking for a person holding a PhD in physics or a relevant engineering degree. You must have previous experience with dilution refrigerators and nanofabrication as well as good communication skills and English. The position requires a methodical approach to complex problems with many control parameters and will benefit from a strong motivation to learn recent developments in nanofabrication of high-coherence superconducting circuit devices as well as in control and measurement instrumentation. Good Python programming skills and experience in superconducting circuit experiments are considered a plus.

We offer

Our institution is based on interdisciplinary, innovative and dynamic collaboration. You will benefit from systematic on-site training, in addition to opportunities for personal development and our pronounced culture of professional training. If you wish to best reconcile work, family life or other personal interests, we can support you through our modern employment conditions and on-site infrastructure.
