The Naturmuseum Thurgau in Frauenfeld is the natural history archive of the Canton of Thurgau. For almost 170 years, it has been collecting, documenting, researching, and communicating the nature and natural history of the region and Switzerland. Through its diverse activities, the museum enables a wide audience to engage with current natural and environmental topics in a well-founded and illustrative manner. The institution occupies a fixed place in both Thurgau's cultural life and the Swiss museum landscape. As of 1 December 2026 or by arrangement, we are looking for a committed and creative Your tasks You are responsible for the content, personnel, financial, and administrative management of the museum, as well as the strategic direction of its collections, exhibitions, educational offerings, and scientific activities. You will further develop the institution as a center of knowledge and education and as a place for cultural and social exchange. With a clear vision, you will communicate complex interactions between nature, environment, and society to a wide audience in an illustrative, exciting, and accessible way. To implement your goals, you will actively maintain cooperations with other museums and cultural actors. You will represent the museum convincingly and with commitment towards the public, the cantonal administration, and political bodies. Your profile You hold a university degree in biological, environmental, or geosciences or in another scientific discipline and bring experience in a museum or a comparable institution, ideally in a leadership role with the corresponding management and financial competencies. You understand the collection as the foundation of the museum and are familiar with the challenges of its preservation, further development, and scientific processing. You set realistic goals for yourself and your employees and value working with a committed team that is used to working independently and responsibly. You convince your colleagues with decisiveness and a cooperative, appreciative, and motivating leadership style. You bring a good understanding of the concerns of various stakeholder groups from the public, administration, and politics and recognize their importance for the strategic development of the museum. You are open and curious regarding social developments and their impact on the museum landscape. Your oral and written expression in German is stylistically confident; knowledge of another national language is an advantage.
