Job Description

We are looking for a software engineer with strong development skills to join the IT Trading & Treasury team of a leading private bank, supporting critical front-office systems used daily by a trading desk of approximately 50 traders.

You will be responsible for the technical delivery and operational support of our order management, pricing, and position monitoring platforms across asset classes - securities, derivatives, and structured products - as well as internal applications that we develop to fill the gaps around them.

This is a hands-on engineering role. You will design and write code, customize vendor platforms, integrate systems end-to-end, and ensure smooth production functioning. The environment is technically rich and highly integrated: order flows, market data, pricing, risk, and core banking are all connected via the platforms you will manage.

What makes this role different

You do not maintain an isolated system. You will work across the entire stack - database, application server, integration layer, user interface - and through the entire lifecycle, from a trader's request to production deployment.

Vendor platforms (FrontArena, Ullink, FinIQ) are part of the landscape, but authentic internal development is too. Previous experience with vendors is welcome; engineering capability and curiosity for financial products matter more.

Key Responsibilities

Build & Modify

• Develop, customize, and maintain components of order management, pricing, and position monitoring platforms, to support new business requirements and platform evolution.
• Design and build internal applications for the trading desk - integration layers, reporting tools, automation, and health check utilities - where vendor platforms do not meet the need.
• Deliver complete end-to-end enhancements and project phases: analysis, technical design, development, testing, deployment, and documentation.
• Work end-to-end across the technology stack, covering databases (Oracle, MS SQL), application servers (Windows, Linux), and front-end components.

Integrate

• Manage and troubleshoot FIX protocol connectivity to brokers, exchanges, and execution venues - session configuration, message flow analysis, troubleshooting.
• Build and maintain integrations between trading platforms, market data providers, the core banking system, and downstream risk and back-office systems.
• Ensure data consistency between systems with different data models and formats, and design mapping and reconciliation logic.

Operate

• Provide level 2/3 application support on trading workflows, from intraday incidents to root cause analysis and permanent fixes.
• Act as a technical escalation point for complex issues, coordinating with external vendors and other IT teams (infrastructure, database, network, core banking) to resolve them.
• Manage incidents with the trading desk with clear communication on impact and expected resolution time - and write post-mortems when necessary.

Collaborate

• Work directly with traders, market risk, and operations to translate business needs into technical solutions, and challenge requirements when a better technical answer exists.
• Collaborate with internal IT teams in a small senior team where technical decisions are openly discussed and accountability is real.

Skills and Experience

Essential

• 3 to 8 years of experience in application development and/or application support in financial services IT.
• Strong Java and/or Python development skills - you write production code, not just scripts.
• Very good knowledge of SQL and relational database systems (Oracle, MS SQL), including the ability to read and optimize queries; familiarity with application servers (mainly Windows, Linux).
• Understanding of financial products, associated workflows, and pricing concepts: mark-to-market and valuation logic, volatility and market data, P&L attribution - sufficient to reason about the behave
