As a Chemie- und Pharmatechnologe/-technologin, you work in production, development, and training facilities of the chemical, pharmaceutical, and biotechnological industries. You control and monitor automated production plants for the manufacture of active ingredients for medicines, fine chemicals, or plant protection products. Often you work in a team, as several people are required for process activities. But manual tasks such as preparing chemicals, filling, sampling, as well as preparing the product are also necessary. In the event of deviations or malfunctions, you directly initiate the necessary measures. In addition to production, plant components are cleaned, functional checks and minor maintenance work are carried out. Your training The apprenticeship lasts three years. Chemie- und Pharmatechnologen/technologinnen complete their practical training in several production facilities of the chemical, biotechnological, or pharmaceutical industry. Vocational school is attended an average of one and a half days per week.
