What awaits you

The Institute for Physiology of the University of Bern is looking for a committed and technically proficient personality as a Specialized Craftsperson II at a workload of 50%.
In this versatile role, you will work at the interface between craftsmanship, technology, research, and teaching. You will develop and manufacture individual technical solutions for our research groups and support them in the implementation of their experimental projects.
Your activity ranges from mechanical processing and repair to modern digital manufacturing techniques. You can contribute your practical skills and technical know-how while simultaneously getting to know new technologies and processes. Your core task involves the independent planning and implementation of technical orders from our research and teaching area -- from the idea or sketch to the finished solution. You will have access to our well-equipped mechanical workshop with classic machine tools as well as modern digital 3D manufacturing techniques.

What you bring with you

• Completed vocational training as a mechanic, polymechanic, toolmaker, or a comparable technical training
• Several years of professional experience in a manual-technical environment
• Good practical knowledge in mechanical processing, assembly, and repair
• Technical understanding and strong spatial reasoning skills
• Experience in the manufacture of custom parts and prototypes
• Independent, careful, and solution-oriented way of working
• Good English skills; French skills are an advantage
• Willingness to learn new technical processes, devices, and applications with continuous professional further training

It is an advantage to have experience with modern manufacturing and processing techniques, such as

• Knowledge, practical experience, and further training with 3D printing and digital 3D manufacturing techniques
• Experience in using CAD programs
• Further training in the field of 3D printing technology
• Experience in using a laser cutter
• Knowledge/experience in TIG/WIG welding
