Bird protection, basic and applied research, and practical implementation are combined with us under one roof. More than 200 permanent employees and 70 temporary staff are committed to the welfare of birds together in a wide variety of task areas.

The Kiebitz is one of four species of waders that still breed regularly in Switzerland. Around a quarter of the Kiebitz pairs in Switzerland breed in the Wauwiler Ebene in the Canton of Luzern. There, the Schweizerische Vogelwarte carries out a scientifically accompanied promotion project. A team of field workers accompanies the Kiebitze during the breeding season, implements protection measures, and records their effectiveness. To increase and determine the breeding success of the Kiebitze, nests are searched for, protected in cooperation with farmers, and the Kiebitz families are accompanied during the breeding season until the young birds are capable of flight.

Your tasks

• Daily observation of the Kiebitze during the entire breeding season (March to July).
• Localization of nests, protection of nests from farming activities and ground predators.
• Implementation of maintenance and promotion measures in consultation with the farmers.
• Deployment in a three-person team
• Public relations: Assistance with excursions and informing interested parties

Your profile

• You enjoy working outdoors in (almost) any weather.
• You want to commit yourself concretely to the protection of an endangered bird species in Switzerland.
• You are receptive to impulses from your team and let them flow into your own ideas.
• You are prepared to be on duty also on weekends and public holidays.
• Flexible working hours represent a welcome change for you.
• You possess a Category B driver's license.
• Proficient German skills for direct exchange with our farmers.
