The Kantonsgericht is the highest judicial authority of the Canton in all legal areas. The Abteilung Strafrecht is the appellate instance against judgments of the Straf- und Jugendgericht. As a complaint instance, it is also responsible, among other things, for the assessment of orders, procedural acts, and decisions of the police, the Staatsanwaltschaft, the Jugendanwaltschaft, and the courts of first instance in criminal matters.
