Scientific Assistant Wind Modeling and Wind Energy Meteorology (80-100%)

Do you want to model wind fields, analyze data, and actively help shape applied research in the field of renewable energies? For our research activities in the Wind Energy Innovation department, we are looking for a committed individual who will further develop wind modeling and "downscaling" approaches for mountainous terrain, support research and industrial projects, and prepare scientific results for practical use. The IET Institute for Energy Technology at OST - Ostschweizer Fachhochschule deals with future-relevant issues surrounding renewable energies and energy efficiency. Your tasks

• Modeling of wind fields in mountainous terrain with high spatial-temporal resolution
• Evaluation of the accuracy of existing models and methods
• Evaluation and further development of computationally efficient methods based on "downscaling" approaches
• Collaboration on research and innovation proposals
• Support for scientific publications
• Collaboration in industrial projects in the field of wind energy and wind modeling
• Support for student projects and smaller activities as a teaching assistant
• Co-design and participation in seminars and events
• Contribution to an open, inclusive, and appreciative institute culture

Your qualification

• Bachelor's degree in engineering sciences with a focus on aerodynamics or wind energy, in geography, meteorology, or a comparable field of study
• Initial experience in wind modeling and/or "downscaling" as well as in data management and data analysis
• Knowledge of Python and MATLAB
• Ideally initial practical experience through industrial internships or comparable activities
• Strong communication skills in an interdisciplinary environment
• High degree of independence as well as a structured and quality-conscious way of working
• Team-oriented, flexible personality with enjoyment of a dynamic research environment
• Fluent German and English skills, at least level C1
