Start of position: 1 November 2026 or by arrangement Work location: Bern The protection of the population in the event of disasters and emergencies is our core business. To this end, in the Civil Protection Department, we accompany and supervise the regional civil protection organizations in the Canton of Bern, lead or support civil protection operations, build up future civil protection training, and ensure the operational readiness of the civil protection infrastructure with its protective structures, alerting and communication means. We are around 20 people, from the architect to the civil protection instructor, from the technician to the commercial employee, from the project manager to the civil protection commander. Your tasks <br /> • Organizational and personnel leadership of the Civil Protection Department • Further development of civil protection in the Canton of Bern and creation of corresponding concepts • Preparation of political matters in the field of civil protection • Responsibility for the redesign of civil protection training in the Canton of Bern • Ensuring the performance profile and service delivery of the Cantonal Disaster Response Element (KKE) • Coordination of work in relation to the structural and technical infrastructures (protective structures, alerting systems, and telematics) • Maintaining contact with partners of civil protection as well as the responsible federal offices • Leading cross-departmental and cross-directorate projects in the field of civil protection • Representing the office in the project for a joint training center for the fire brigade, civil protection, and cantonal police • Representing the office, the directorate, and the Canton of Bern in specialist cantonal, intercantonal, and national organizations, specialist, and working groups <br /> Your profile <br /> • University degree (University of Applied Sciences, University, or ETH) • Experience in the field of leadership and project management • Management position in civil protection or in the army and proven leadership experience • Resilient, committed, and implementation-strong personality • Distinct negotiation skills and conflict management ability • High quality awareness • Decision-making ability • Loyalty and customer orientation • Poise in public appearances • Goal-oriented as well as strategic thinking and acting • German or French native language with very good knowledge of the other language (B2) <br /> We offer you <br /> • a demanding, versatile activity in a constantly evolving environment in public administration • attractive, contemporary employment conditions • development perspectives • a workplace near Breitenrain- and Guisanplatz in Bern <br /> Contact Have we aroused your interest?
