JOB PURPOSE

Aiglon College is an international boarding school based in the Swiss Alps with a worldwide reputation for providing a challenging holistic education in an inspiring setting within a safe, caring and supportive framework. The School is CIS accredited, and caters for around 500 students aged 7-18 representing 70 nations. Students prepare for IGCSEs and the IB Diploma Programme.

The ideal candidate for this position would be an experienced, enthusiastic, dynamic, knowledgeable leader and/or teacher of Physical Education and Sport. PE and Sport are compulsory for students throughout the Junior and Senior schools. In Years 10 and 11 students have the option of studying IGCSE PE. Subsequently, in Years 12 and 13, Sports, Exercise and Health Science is offered and is currently taught in conjunction with the Science department.
KEY TASKS AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Professional Standards and Expectations
Carry out teaching duties and exercise responsibilities in line with the Guiding Principles of Aiglon;
Treat all members of the community, colleagues and students, with respect and consideration. Treat all students fairly, consistently and without prejudice;
Set a good example to students in terms of appropriate dress, standards of punctuality and attendance;
Read and adhere to the various policies of the school as expressed in the Aiglon Guide and other agreed documentation, and support the ethos of the school by upholding the behaviour code, uniform and kit regulations and other expectations;
Be available to work on campus in good time to complete all necessary preparations and meetings before the start of term;
Take personal responsibility for professional development and participate in staff training in line with the continued professional development programme of Aiglon;
Encourage members of their faculty to take responsibility for their own professional development and ensure all in the faculty participate in staff training in line with the CPD programme of Aiglon;
Reflect on personal and school practices in pursuit of continuous improvement.
Participate in appraisal and self-evaluation activities and ensure the appraisal system is adhered to and completed within the faculty;
Chair a weekly faculty meeting;
Ensure all faculty members are aware of and adhere to departmental deadlines, policies and procedures;
Undertake pastoral and other duties, including weekend and evening duties, as prescribed within school policies;
Ensure that all deadlines are met as published in the school calendar and as directed by the Head of Faculty/Deputy School Directors;
Undertake professional duties that may be reasonably assigned, including cover and exam invigilation and ensure members of their faculty also undertake these duties;
Attend Assembly/Meditation on at least two mornings a week when averaged over any term and be prepared to give a Meditation once each year;
Be proactive and take responsibility for matters relating to health and safety;
Support the school through regular attendance at various events in the School Calendar (these may be religious, spiritual, sporting or cultural).
Departmental Management
Implement a clear vision for curriculum Physical Education and all aspects of Sport at Aiglon, making sure that there is continuity and progression between Junior School and Senior School;
Develop and manage the strategic development plan for the faculty in line with the School’s strategic development plan thus fostering a love of Physical Education and inspiring a lifelong commitment to Sport;
Line management of Head of Junior Physical Education and Sport, Head of Senior Physical Education and Sport, Head of Snowsports and Performance Athletes, MCFC football coach and the Sports Facilities Manager and support them in the management of all other members of the Physical Education and Sport faculty;
Ensure that the faculty embraces the opportunities available through strategic partnerships including MCFC;
Ensure the faculty handbook is updated annually and includes reference to objectives for the year ahead which tie into the school’s overall objectives;
Provide a strategic link between the Academic Leadership Group and the Physical Education and Sport faculty, attending meetings and reporting on School-wide initiatives;
Ensure that the Department meets the curriculum requirements for the School;
Monitor and develop the quality of teaching, coaching and learning, through regular visits to lessons and otherwise, with a clear focus on excellence;
Implement a clear vision and structure for competitive inter-school sport across the School at Aiglon;
Implement a clear programme for inter-house sport at Aiglon. Liaise with the Director of Boarding and attend House Parent meetings where necessary to publicise and promote sporting initiatives, with clear communication to all stakeholders (students, staff and parents);
Promote and communicate to the Aiglon community initiatives and success stories from the Physical Education and Sport faculty, through weekly assemblies and the calendar alongside regular liaison with stakeholders in Admissions, Communications and Alumni teams;
Ensure that requirements of examination boards are met, and students are entered for public examinations, submitting appropriate coursework and ensuring that students are suitably prepared for examinations;
Preparing an annual report for the Deputy Director setting out an analysis of external examination results and value-added statistics;
Ensure, in consultation with the Deputy School Director the effective deployment of staff and classes within the Department;
Participate in the appointment of new staff, and support new staff entering the Department;
Ensure all members of the faculty take account of students' prior levels of attainment, and baseline data where relevant, and use these to set targets for future improvements;
Oversee all aspects of the organisation of tournaments, fixtures and trips where appropriate;
To be available for School sporting events including The Challenge, Sports Day and other major School events;
Booking of snowsports instructors for all students in the winter term, which will require close liaison with external ski school instructors used by Aiglon, ensuring a high level of instruction takes place and to ensure ability groups are monitored regularly.
