Geneva (and home office) | 80-90% What you can contribute to <br /> • Ensure operational service (24/7) in the functions of <<Aeronautical Meteorological Forecaster>> (AMF) and <<Public Weather Service Forecaster>> (PWS-F) • Ensure meteorological monitoring, issuance of alerts, development of products and meteorological advice, and writing and dissemination of documents for specific users according to the work plan and instructions • Communicate with our clients and partners, advise and support them in their decision-making • Ensure the function of head of service and, as such, be responsible for the smooth running of the entire production within the forecasting center • Write blog articles and contributions for social media and respond to media inquiries • Take on other tasks related to, for example, the implementation and operation of new services, forms of communication (including social media), climate services, and forecasting tools, working closely with other divisions of MétéoSuisse <br /> What makes you unique <br /> • University degree (master's) with in-depth knowledge of meteorology (for more details, see the required skills on the MétéoSuisse website, <<Basic Instruction Package for Meteorologists>> (BIP-M) in accordance with WMO manual No. 1083) • Ability to work in operational service with irregular working hours (night and weekend shifts) and to collaborate within a team • Ability to make quick, relevant decisions, even in stressful situations • Excellent command of French, good active knowledge of German, and passive knowledge of Italian. Due to linguistic usage in the international context, aviation, and WMO regulations, good communication and writing skills in English are required • Very good ability and interest in communication activities for multiple target audiences through different channels (media, blogs, social media, briefings, etc.) • Additional qualifications appreciated: knowledge of programming languages focused on meteorology (e.g., Python), experience in scientific or journalistic communication, experience in aviation <br /> In a few words As a meteorologist within the Western Regional Center located in Geneva, you ensure tasks related to monitoring, forecasting, and meteorological alerts for French-speaking Switzerland and Valais. You are responsible for developing and communicating forecasts and alerts intended for authorities, aviation, and the general public, working closely with other forecasting centers in Zurich and Locarno Monti. In collaboration with various divisions of MétéoSuisse, you also ensure tasks outside of operational service. For example, you ensure the implementation of new services and forms of communication, contribute to climate services, or participate in the technical implementation of forecasting tools.
