About the Role
Swiss Himmel GmbH is looking for an experienced ETL / Data Engineer to support the modernization of a legacy on-premises data platform as it gradually transitions to Azure.
The role will initially focus on maintaining and enhancing the existing Informatica PowerCenter, PostgreSQL, Unix, and Autosys environment, while progressively contributing to the migration of workloads to Azure Databricks, PySpark, and Microsoft Fabric Data Factory.
The migration will follow a phased approach, with legacy and cloud platforms operating in parallel. The successful candidate will help maintain the stability of the existing platform while supporting data migration, validation, reconciliation, and cloud adoption activities.
Project Overview

- Legacy on-premises data warehouse based on Informatica PowerCenter and PostgreSQL.
- Unix shell scripting for automation and processing.

- Azure-based data platform.

Migration Approach
- Phased migration from on-premises to Azure.

Key Responsibilities
ETL & Data Engineering
- Develop, maintain, and troubleshoot Informatica PowerCenter mappings, workflows, and sessions.
- Develop and optimize complex SQL, functions, and stored procedures in PostgreSQL.
- Build and maintain Unix shell scripts for file processing, job automation, and monitoring.
- Schedule, monitor, and manage batch jobs using Autosys, including JIL, dependencies, and failure handling.
- Support data quality, validation, and reconciliation activities across source and target environments.
Azure Migration
- Support the migration of existing ETL workloads from on-premises platforms to Azure.
- Develop and maintain PySpark workloads in Azure Databricks.
- Support data integration development using Microsoft Fabric Data Factory.
- Validate migrated workloads through parallel runs and data reconciliation.
- Contribute to the gradual modernization of the existing data platform.
CI/CD & Deployment
- Set up and maintain GitLab CI/CD pipelines for code versioning and deployment.
- Support Azure DevOps-based development and deployment activities.
- Ensure controlled and documented deployments across development, testing, and production environments.
Reporting & Data Support
- Support reporting teams with data validation and troubleshooting.
- Assist with Power BI and/or Tableau reporting requirements.
- Ensure data consistency and accuracy for downstream reports and business users.
Production Support & Change Management
- Support production environments and troubleshoot data and ETL-related issues.
- Perform root cause analysis and implement corrective actions.
- Create, track, and implement Change Requests in ServiceNow.
- Participate in CAB approvals, implementation activities, and post-implementation reviews.
- Support production cutovers and migration activities.
- Maintain stability of the legacy platform throughout the migration.
Required Qualifications & Experience
- 12+ years of experience in ETL development, data engineering, or data warehousing.
- Strong hands-on experience with Informatica PowerCenter.
- Strong knowledge of PostgreSQL, including SQL development and performance tuning.
- Strong experience with Unix/Linux and shell scripting.
- Hands-on experience with Autosys job scheduling.
- Experience with GitLab CI/CD and deployment processes.
- Experience with Power BI and/or Tableau.
- Working knowledge of PySpark and Azure Databricks.
- Working knowledge of Microsoft Fabric Data Factory.
- Working knowledge of Azure DevOps.
- Hands-on experience with ServiceNow Change Management, including CR creation, CAB approval, implementation, and post-implementation review.
- Experience supporting production environments and performing root cause analysis.
- Strong analytical and troubleshooting skills.
Good to Have
- Previous experience with on-premises to cloud data migration.
- Understanding of ITIL Incident, Problem, and Change Management.
