Forest Risk and Monitoring Manager
Zurich, CH, 8005
About you
Barry Callebaut's "Forever Chocolate" strategy includes strong commitments to climate change and forest protection. Corresponding objectives have been specifically formalized to reflect Barry Callebaut's ambition to prevent deforestation in the Group's raw material supply chains and to reduce carbon emissions:
• By 2025, be forest positive
• By 2030, we will have decarbonized our footprint in accordance with global efforts to limit warming to 1.5 degrees Celsius
• By 2050, we will be a net-zero emission company
Barry Callebaut's strategy to achieve the "Forest Positive" objectives mentioned above and to comply with the future European Union Deforestation Regulation (EUDR) includes a set of tools to fulfill BC's due diligence obligations as well as forest protection objectives. These tools and programs will enable the Group to affirm that volumes imported into Europe from 2025 are "deforestation-free" and compliant with EUDR. This role ensures that Barry Callebaut has the best deforestation monitoring and geospatial intelligence capabilities to support compliant, deforestation-free, and legal sourcing as well as proactive risk management. In this context, the Forest Risk and Monitoring Manager will oversee the governance, performance, and continuous improvement of deforestation monitoring tools and procedures.
Key responsibilities include

• Manage relationships with service providers selected for deforestation risk assessment, legality verification, and continuous monitoring
• Oversee and maintain global governance and local standard operating procedures including clear roles and responsibilities for deforestation monitoring and legality assessments
• Collaborate with Digital, traceability, and MEL teams to ensure seamless integration and data flows between BC's deforestation and legality monitoring platform and relevant data collection tools
• Be responsible for and continuously improve methodologies and systems to identify high-risk deforestation areas, provide proactive recommendations to sourcing teams, and implement necessary mitigation actions
• Innovation and continuous improvement:
• Monitor market developments in geospatial analysis, satellite monitoring, and deforestation risk modeling
• Evaluate new tools, methodologies, and data sources to improve current solutions
• Proactively identify and support the creation and development of innovations, including techniques, tools, and processes to improve efficiency, accuracy, and overall business value
• Maintain and develop an external network (e.g., suppliers, NGOs, platforms, start-ups)
• Data analysis and business insights:
• Provide technical advice and ensure accurate data sharing between teams, strengthening internal knowledge, capabilities, and action implementation.
• Co-design and implement with MEL (Monitoring, Evaluation, and Learning) a geospatial assessment agenda tailored to the needs of the Thriving nature team, including data on deforestation and land use to identify trends, risks, and actionable insights
• Translate geospatial data into clear and actionable recommendations for sourcing and sustainability teams
• Collaborate with Digital, MEL, and Traceability teams on data collection and management needs to support proactive risk management by identifying high-risk areas, emerging patterns, and threats
• Strategy implementation and stakeholder mobilization:
• Act as a reference expert on deforestation monitoring, providing advice to teams and functions
• Support the development of dashboards, reporting frameworks, and decision-support tools to enable data-driven insights
• Drive training, adoption, and standardized implementation of methodologies, tools, and processes across teams and geographies
