Machine Learning Engineer for Climate and Weather Forecasting (m/f)

Zürich-Flughafen or Locarno (and home office) | 80-100% Your contribution <br /> • Promoting innovation through the evaluation and prototyping of new Machine Learning and MLOps technologies using practical proof-of-concepts • Driving the integration and operationalization of a state-of-the-art ML-based weather forecasting system at MeteoSchweiz as well as within the framework of the Digital Europe Programme (DEP); in doing so, Anemoi-based models are made production-ready and benchmarked on leading EuroHPC supercomputing centers • Jointly developing new weather forecasting approaches with Data Scientists and meteorologists from MeteoSchweiz as well as partner institutions throughout Europe • Building and further developing ML tools, services, and workflows that support reliable, production-ready weather forecasting systems in cloud and High-Performance Computing environments such as the Swiss National Supercomputing Centre (CSCS) <br /> What makes you unique <br /> • University degree (at least ISCED 7) in Computer Science, Applied Mathematics, Data Science, or a related field • Experience with MLOps, container technologies, as well as cloud platforms and HPC environments, e.g., Docker, Kubernetes, Terraform, and SLURM • Very good programming skills in Python as well as experience with the Machine Learning framework PyTorch • Committed personality with a creative, solution-oriented mindset as well as strong communication skills • Active knowledge of an official language and passive knowledge of a second, as well as very good English skills <br /> In a nutshell As a Machine Learning Engineer for weather and climate applications, you bring state-of-the-art weather forecasting models into operational use throughout Europe, develop new ML and MLOps approaches through practical prototypes, and actively shape the next generation of weather forecasting.
