<<Execution according to measure>> is our motto at the Justizvollzugsanstalt Thorberg. We execute sanctions for 180 men from over 40 nations in closed execution. Our 140 employees are committed daily to the reintegration of the inmates into society and thus make an important contribution to public safety. In eleven workshops, we lead and promote the inmates according to work-agogic principles. Our programs in the areas of work, therapy, education, sport and leisure are consistently oriented towards risk reduction and social integration.

The newly to-be-established Integrationsatelier is a work offer for inmates who are overwhelmed by the inmate workplaces offered by the JVA. You will prepare them, usually with half-day work assignments, for integration into one of our numerous ateliers or into one of the internal service operations. The inmates are guided towards serial as well as creative activities.

Your tasks

• You actively help develop the new <<Integrationsatelier>> and contribute your ideas and experience.
• You manage the atelier according to professional standards together with a colleague, taking into account the infrastructural conditions and the requirements of the JVA.
• You lead up to 20 inmates who usually work half-days in the atelier (10 workplaces).
• You accompany and promote the inmates according to work-agogic principles and orient yourself towards individual promotion goals.
• You assess the work performance fairly and traceably and provide regular verbal and written feedback.
• You acquire, organize and coordinate internal and external orders in consultation with the team leader and ensure their professional processing in the atelier.
• You ensure professional and structured warehousing including proactive goods replenishment/goods flow.
• You work interdisciplinary with the other work ateliers as well as the various areas of the JVA.
• You ensure safety, cleanliness and order in the atelier and pay attention to consistent process orientation, a clean-desk policy and seamless administrative documentation.
• The position is fixed-term until the end of 2028. Should it not be possible to extend it, there is the possibility, if suitable, to switch to another atelier.

Your profile

• You have a federal certificate of proficiency (eidg. Fähigkeitszeugnis) in a manual trade with at least three years of professional experience and represent your craft with enthusiasm.
• You are a work-agoge (Arbeitsagoge/in) or a specialist in judicial execution with a federal diploma (eidg. Fachausweis) or are willing to undergo appropriate further training.
• You have experience in the instruction and qualification of unskilled workers in everyday professional life.
• You are a balanced, reliable and responsible personality and you are resilient, decisive and assertive.
• You work in a structured and organized manner and move confidently within operational requirements and framework conditions.
• You are open to people with different cultural backgrounds, with mental illnesses, conspicuous behavior and in sometimes difficult social situations.
• You do not lose your sense of humor even in hectic situations.
• You enjoy working interdisciplinary, manage to take different perspectives and therefore have understanding for the concerns of other professional groups.
• You speak and write German well, orally also French and/or English. Further language skills are very welcome.
• You have digital user skills and are familiar with common IT applications.

About the Amt für Justizvollzug

The Amt für Justizvollzug (AJV), with around 1000 employees within the Sicherheitsdirektion des Kantons Bern (SID), is responsible for the open and closed penal and measure execution for adults and youths. To fulfill this task, the office has four concordat judicial execution institutions, four regional prisons, the detention station at the Inselspital, the detention management center as well as probation and execution services at its disposal.
