The Département de chirurgie ensures the care of patients 24h/24, both in elective and emergency cases requiring surgical intervention. It represents a center of excellence, not only Swiss, but also European in several fields and in several of its surgical specialties. Within this department, the Service de chirurgie orthopédique et traumatologie de l'appareil moteur constitutes the most important center of this type in Switzerland. It offers cutting-edge care covering all areas of reconstructive orthopedic surgery and adult traumatology, including complex and highly specialized situations. The service performs more than 6'500 surgical interventions each year and ensures approximately 45'000 consultations. It relies on a multidisciplinary approach, high-level infrastructure, and strong involvement in university teaching and clinical research. This position is newly created and is part of the ALTER deployment which aims to ensure the compliance of work organization with the Labor Law (LTr). Chief Resident in Internal Medicine for Orthopedic Surgery - 100% As a chief resident holding the title of specialist in general internal medicine, you will join the peri-operative medicine team of the Service de chirurgie orthopédique et traumatologie de l'appareil moteur. You will contribute to the global medical care of patients hospitalized in the different units of the service. In close collaboration with surgical, anesthesiological, nursing teams and other professionals involved, you will ensure the evaluation, optimization, and follow-up of patients presenting comorbidities or peri-operative medical issues. Your clinical activity includes notably preoperative medical evaluation, the optimization of acute and chronic pathologies likely to influence surgical risk or recovery, as well as the prevention, identification, and management of postoperative complications. You participate in interdisciplinary visits and coordinate diagnostic and therapeutic strategies in connection with the assistant physicians and the teams concerned. You supervise internal doctors in their daily activity, accompany them in their clinical reasoning, and actively contribute to their training. You ensure the quality of medical documentation, the continuity of care, and the coordination of the hospital pathway of patients. Thanks to your clinical sense, your ability to prioritize, and your autonomy, you manage varied, sometimes complex, situations in a demanding and interdisciplinary hospital environment. You maintain clear and constructive communication with medical-care teams, patients, as well as their relatives. Finally, you participate in the development and structuring of the peri-operative medicine activity in orthopedics, as well as in quality improvement, teaching projects, and, depending on opportunities, clinical research. The activity is organized mainly from Monday to Friday, according to the needs and functioning of the service. Qualifications You hold a federal medical diploma or have training deemed equivalent by the Medical Professions Commission of the Federal Office of Public Health (MEBEKO). You benefit from an FMH title in general internal medicine or you have a title deemed equivalent recognized by MEBEKO and possess the cantonal right of practice or are able to obtain it before your start of duty with the cantonal physician of Geneva.
