The Schweizerische Vogelwarte Sempach is a non-profit foundation for ornithology and bird protection. It monitors the native bird life, researches its way of life, and advocates for threatened bird species. It cares for injured and orphaned birds, informs and advises the population, and operates a visitor center in Sempach. The Vogelwarte employs over 200 employees in all parts of the country.
Bird protection is one of the two foundation purposes of the Vogelwarte, which is why it is engaged on several levels for better living conditions for birds breeding, resting, and wintering in Switzerland. It influences the legal and financial framework conditions, helps to make the use of the landscape bird-friendly and sustainable, and directly promotes threatened species with ecological enhancements and species protection measures.
To strengthen various projects in the area of promotion, we are looking for a committed personality as of 1 March 2027 for an

Internship in the area of promotion (100%)
with subsequent activity as technical assistance from March 2028 to July 2028

Your tasks
March to July 2027:

• Fieldwork in the species promotion project Lapwing in the Wauwiler Ebene LU
• Working in a team of three, daily observation of the lapwings
• Searching for nests and families
• Protection of the broods in cooperation with farmers
• Public relations: Assistance with excursions, informing interested parties

August - October 2027:

• Collaboration in the Settlement Area department. Support in the control and processing of data on breeding sites of building nesters (swifts, swallows)
• Support in workshops with volunteers

November 2027 - February 2028:

• Collaboration in the Species Promotion department (creation of instructions for data collection, processing of data for Kestrel/Barn Owl)
• Support field work Little Owl

March - July 2028:

• Fieldwork in the species promotion project Lapwing
• Leading the field team as technical assistance
• Supporting the project management

Your profile

• You enjoy working outdoors in (almost) all weather.
• You are prepared to be deployed also on weekends and public holidays.
• Flexible working hours represent a welcome change for you.
• You possess a Category B driver's license.
• You have ornithological knowledge.
• You already have experience in dealing with databases.
• You have French language skills.
• You are business fluent in the German language.
