As Laborant*innen, you work in a team under the responsibility of Biologist*innen or Chemiker*innen in the areas of research, development, quality control, and small-scale production. Tasks such as the development of biotechnological processes, monitoring cells on a small scale, cleaning and controlling products with specialized equipment are also included. For professionals in a pharmaceutical company, the constant adherence to given safety and work regulations is commonplace. The exact documentation of work steps and evaluation of results on the computer is of great importance. You work together with researchers from different countries and therefore often communicate in English. Your training The apprenticeship lasts three years. The first 6 months of training are completed by all Laborant*innen specialization Biology together in the Lonza training laboratory. After that, you go on a rotation of 5-6 months each into various laboratory areas of Lonza, such as research, development, quality control, and small-scale production. You attend vocational school lessons during the entire apprenticeship period for one and a half days per week.
