Machine Learning Engineer for climate and weather forecasting (m/f)

Zurich-Aéroport or Locarno (and home office) | 80-100% What you can contribute <br /> • Drive innovation by evaluating and implementing prototypes of new Machine Learning and MLOps technologies focused on the practical application of concrete concepts (Proofs of Concept, PoC) • Lead the integration and implementation of a cutting-edge Machine Learning-based weather forecasting system within MétéoSuisse and the Digital Europe Programme (DEP) -- Destination Earth. Prepare Anemoi-based models for production and evaluate them on the main EuroHPC high-performance computing centers • Co-develop new forecasting approaches in collaboration with Data Scientists and meteorologists from MétéoSuisse as well as partner institutions across Europe • Design and evolve Machine Learning tools, services, and workflows that support reliable and production-ready forecasting systems on Cloud- und High-Performance-Computing, such as Swiss National Supercomputing Centre (CSCS) <br /> What makes you unique <br /> • University degree (at least ISCED 7 level) in computer science, applied mathematics, data science, or a similar field • Experience in MLOps, containerization technologies, cloud platforms, and HPC environments, for example Docker, Kubernetes, Terraform, and SLURM • Excellent Python programming skills and good mastery of the PyTorch Machine Learning framework • Committed personality, endowed with a creative and problem-solving mindset, as well as excellent communication skills • Active mastery of an official language, passive knowledge of a second official language, as well as very good mastery of English <br /> In a few words As a Machine Learning Engineer (m/f) for meteorological and climate applications, you will contribute to the operational deployment, on a European scale, of cutting-edge forecasting models. You will develop and test new approaches in Machine Learning and MLOps through concrete prototypes, while actively participating in the design of the next generation of weather forecasting systems.
