Head of Finance

Finance with purpose: Take responsibility for the financial management of a Switzerland-wide significant foundation for ornithology and bird protection. Die Schweizerische Vogelwarte Sempach is a non-profit foundation for ornithology and bird protection operating throughout Switzerland. With over 180 employees, it monitors the native bird population, researches their way of life, and advocates for endangered species. Professional, forward-looking, and sustainable financial management is central so that the diverse research, protection, and service tasks can have a long-term impact. Following the retirement of the current job holder, we are looking for a strong-willed and implementation-oriented personality for the Head of Finance, 80 -- 100 %, starting August 2027 or by arrangement. In this key role, you are responsible for controlling and accounting and support the institute management and the foundation board in implementing the investment and financial strategy. You manage budgeting, financial and liquidity planning, prepare financial statements and meaningful reports, and ensure reporting to the institute management, foundation board, and Zewo. You are the contact person for the auditing body as well as a member of the investment commission. In addition, you are responsible for the financial processing of research and third-party funded projects, donations, as well as discounts, and are a competent contact person for tax matters. Together with the team of two people, you ensure stable processes, timely processing of day-to-day business, and the targeted further development of financial processes, financial applications, and IKS. In doing so, you drive projects forward pragmatically and create reliable foundations for current development topics such as digitalization, CRM, and sustainability. You have a sound education in finance and accounting, ideally supplemented by further training in business administration, and bring several years of practical experience. Swiss GAAP FER, Abacus, contract management, as well as proficient handling of IT and financial applications are familiar to you.
