The Forestry and Natural Hazards Office (UFP) is the specialized cantonal service for forests and protection against natural hazards. The employees of the UFP are committed to the needs of society towards the forest and guarantee sustainable forest management.

You ensure that the Graubünden forest

• is able to protect humans, animals, and infrastructure,
• is a vital space for various animal and plant species,
• is a provider of raw materials such as wood, water, and energy,
• can also in the future serve as a space for rest and leisure for people.

We are looking for an immediate start or a date to be agreed upon for a technical officer for forest data (GIS) (70-100%)

Tasks

• As the GIS manager for the "forest state and development" sector, you are responsible for the updating, harmonization, and further development of our geodata.
• In collaboration with specialists, you calculate forest indicators and ensure their archiving and accessibility.
• You automate periodic calculations and modeling.
• Depending on your qualifications, you support the sector in the analysis, interpretation, and use of digital data and indicators. You participate in interdisciplinary GIS projects.

What we expect from you

• University degree or degree from a university of applied sciences in geoinformatics, computer science, data science, geography, forest sciences, or a related field. Candidates with corresponding professional experience and professional advanced training in the GIS/IT sector, as well as recent graduates, are also welcome.
• Strong propensity for learning and interest in the methodical analysis of complex problems, the development of pragmatic solutions, and the rapid practical application of innovations.
• Knowledge of ArcGIS Pro, R, and Python is a preferential qualification.
• Initiative, reliability, and a solution-oriented way of working.
• Good knowledge of multiple cantonal languages is an advantage.
