The clinical service spectrum of the Institute for Anesthesiology and Perioperative Medicine (IFA) includes all anesthesia procedures for outpatient and inpatient operative as well as diagnostic interventions, including comprehensive pre- and postoperative care. Other central areas of responsibility are the treatment of acute and chronic pain, shock room care for critically ill patients, and the in-hospital resuscitation service. Furthermore, the institute provides emergency physicians for pre-clinical ground- and air-based emergency care as well as the intensive care transfer service in close cooperation with Schutz & Rettung Zürich (SRZ) and the Schweizerische Rettungsflugwacht (REGA). Within the framework of highly specialized medicine, the USZ additionally holds service mandates for all transplantations and for the treatment of severely burned and multiple-trauma patients.
