(Junior) Legal Counsel | 80-100% | St. Gallen, Switzerland or Berlin, Germany (Hybrid)
With more than 100 million searches, weather is one of the five most searched topics on Google - and for good reason. Weather influences decisions in almost every sector, from energy and aviation to agriculture, logistics, and insurance. At Meteomatics, we transform the most accurate meteorological and climate data in the world into insights that help our customers better manage their activities - and, in many cases, protect lives and property. We work with almost every sector, all over the world.
As we continue to expand our global presence, we are looking for an operational (Junior) Legal Counsel to help build our in-house legal function. This is a high-responsibility role within a small, tight-knit team: you will work directly with our commercial and cross-functional teams to advance deals and manage risks.
If you want visible impact and the freedom to shape how legal works - rather than just being a cog in a large department - this position is for you.
Your responsibilities
Take charge of end-to-end commercial contracting - drafting, reviewing, and negotiating software licenses, SaaS, data sharing and licensing, service and confidentiality agreements, ensuring deals move forward without compromising risk management.
Be the go-to legal partner for the commercial team - be close to the business, translate legal risks into clear commercial advice, and help conclude contracts aligned with our business objectives.
Build for scale - develop templates, practical guides, and self-service tools that allow the company to quickly handle standard issues, so that legal time is dedicated to matters that truly need it.
Advise on the laws and regulations that shape B2B SaaS and the meteorological data industry, including intellectual property, data protection (e.g., Swiss FADP and GDPR).
Protect the company's intellectual property and data assets and help integrate good data protection practices throughout the organization.
Manage and coordinate external counsel across jurisdictions - while maintaining high quality and reasonable spend.
Raise legal awareness across the entire company through practical training and clear, usable guidelines.
Your qualifications
Master's or higher degree from an accredited law faculty;
2 to 4 years of experience as a Legal Counsel, Legal Analyst, or in a comparable role - ideally in a B2B or SaaS technology company, or in a reputable law firm.
Good proficiency in B2B SaaS contracts, intellectual property, and data privacy, with the necessary confidence to manage legal issues in an international context.
Commercial and pragmatic mindset - you find the way to "yes" while clearly flagging what is truly important.
Comfortable working autonomously and defining your own priorities in a fast-paced and lean environment; you like taking responsibility rather than waiting for directives.
Excellent negotiation, communication, and writing skills in English. German, French, Spanish - or any other language - is a real plus given our Swiss base and international clientele.
What we offer
Purpose and impact: flat hierarchies and a true opportunity to shape the success of Meteomatics - and to build a legal function that is truly your own.
International environment: we come from all over the world and bring very different backgrounds.
Hybrid work: we love meeting our colleagues at the office, and we also appreciate focused time at home when we are more introspective.
Atmosphere: our People team loves organizing social activities - terrace barbecues, ski days in the Swiss mountains, off-site summer events, after-work games, and more.
Meteomatics is a leading global provider of meteorological and climate data, passionate about transforming and developing the application of weather information worldwide.
