The contribution you can make

• Lead the Army's Shooting and non-service activities unit and assume global responsibility for these sectors
• Create favorable conditions throughout Switzerland for the targeted fulfillment of tasks in the sectors of non-service shooting, non-service activities, and pre-service instruction
• Represent the army in commissions, projects, and national working groups, as well as promote collaboration between civil associations
• Define and implement the legal bases for the sector, as well as plan the further development of non-service activities and pre-service instruction
• Monitor the management of allocated credits and decide on the allocation of allowances intended for associations and organizations
• Lead the TAFS militia specialist staff

What distinguishes you

• University degree (bachelor or master) or equivalent training with several years of professional experience
• Complete knowledge of political connections and parliamentary processes, as well as in-depth knowledge of non-service organizations, shooting, and pre-service instruction
• Strong negotiation skills, particularly in relations with political authorities and association officials, as well as the ability to lead a team in a cooperative manner and interest in building and maintaining a network of contacts
• Good active knowledge of at least a second official language and passive knowledge of a third official language as well as good knowledge of English
• Availability to work also on weekends
• Military training and good knowledge of military structures and processes constitute an advantage

In summary

The Shooting and non-service activities (TAFS) organization in the Instruction Command is responsible for the implementation of the legal bases. This task involves in particular the handling of administrative activities related to compulsory and optional shooting exercises with service weapons and ammunition carried out by recognized shooting societies. The conduct of non-service instruction and refresher courses in shooting activity (youth shooter monitors and shooting monitors) also falls within the competence of TAFS.
The non-service activities (AFS) sector in TAFS processes the relevant requests, issues the respective authorizations, and ensures compliance with the regulations. Every year, more than 5000 events are authorized for a total of over 122 000 days of employment.
Optional pre-service instruction aims to prepare young people for military service in certain specialist sectors. The DDPS determines the specialist sectors in which courses are held within the framework of pre-service instruction.

The Instruction Command (Cdo Istr) is responsible for instruction within the Swiss Army -- from recruitment to general basic instruction to officer training -- regarding the militia and professional soldiers. It includes Higher Officer Training, Army Personnel, five training formations, the Instruction Center, and the specialized Women in the Army and diversity Service. A third of the approximately 2350 employees are active in civil professions in scientific, technical, medical, psychological, administrative or sporting fields and contribute to success alongside professional soldiers.

The Swiss Army employs over 9000 employees within the framework of four military professions and approximately 200 civil professions, in 110 locations throughout the national territory. Furthermore, it provides for new recruits, training apprentices in over 30 professions.
