Tasks

Assessments

You assess the need for help and protection of children and adolescents on behalf of families, the KESB, or the courts. In cooperation with the parents as well as the specialist agencies in child protection, you triage or initiate suitable support offers.

Mandate Management

You prepare reports for the KESB and the courts and are responsible for the implementation of statutory child protection measures. As a legal guardian (Beistandsperson), you advise and support the entire family system on educational matters.

Developing solutions serving the child's well-being

You always place the child at the center, whether in the indication of assistance for upbringing in the outpatient or inpatient sector, in the counseling of parents in separation and divorce situations, or in the assessment of burdens in cases of domestic violence.

Cooperation in child protection

You build sustainable working alliances with parents, children, and other involved persons. In addition, you maintain clear, binding, and professional cooperation with homes, providers of outpatient assistance, as well as other specialist agencies in the canton.

Team Building

You are willing and motivated to actively contribute to team-building processes and enjoy helping to shape a new team in the Child and Youth Welfare Center.

Profile

Experience

If possible, you are in an advanced stage of study and have preferably already gained experience in the social sector. Good PC skills and confident written expression are required.

Personality

You work empathetically, responsibly, and in a structured manner with families and specialists. Ideally, you are over 24 years old and interested in the field of child and youth protection.

Education

As part of the practice-oriented study (FH Bachelor's degree) at a University of Applied Sciences for Social Work, you successively take on more tasks and responsibility. Preferably with a specialization in Childhood and Youth.

Insight into our work

The Youth, Family, and Sport division of the Erziehungsdepartement Basel-Stadt manages a large subject area surrounding childcare, child and youth welfare, early promotion, and sport. It informs and supports children, adolescents, and those involved in upbringing and advocates for high-quality, state, and private offers. The promotion of grassroots sports and exercise, in clubs and privately, is also among the central tasks. This work directly benefits many people in Basel: from children to parents to sports enthusiasts.

The services of the Child and Youth Service (KJD) of the Erziehungsdepartement Basel-Stadt are oriented towards the child's well-being. The employees of the KJD inform, advise, and support children, adolescents, and those involved in their upbringing. They assess the support needs of children, adolescents, and parents and organize and coordinate the necessary assistance. Employees of the KJD work on behalf of families, the Child and Adult Protection Authority (KESB), or the Civil Court.
