Together with the Microscopy Imaging Center of the University of Bern www.mic.unibe.ch (https://www.mic.unibe.ch), we are looking for an IT system administrator from 1 October 2026 or by agreement. Your tasks <br /> • Administration and ensuring the operation and security of the heterogeneous (MacOS, Windows, Linux) IT environment and its components (hardware and software, services). • Maintenance of 100 clients (updates, backup clients (macOS + WIN) and remote support; UniBern VPN 2FAFortiClient; Filemaker Pro 19 Server and data archives; multifunctional devices Canon, as well as various printers. • Installation of workplaces (client and server) including system and application software and printers. • Evaluation and procurement of computers and peripheral devices, system and application software, as well as management of the inventory of hardware, software, and network components. • Independent and speedy troubleshooting of software and hardware errors. • Processing of support requests on site, by phone/Teams/TeamViewer, etc. • Support in locating, isolating, and troubleshooting errors. • 1st and 2nd-level user support for institute employees (researchers, students, technical and administrative staff) in the application of existing systems, including support for smartphones (iOS and Android) and laptops for students. • Collaboration with institute administrations and contact person for the central IT services of the University of Bern and the IT representatives of other institutes. • Support for video conferences and maintenance of the institute's websites. <br /> Your profile <br /> • Completed vocational training in computer science EFZ or equivalent. • In-depth knowledge in the field of Apple and Windows client engineering (MacOS and Windows) and in the Microsoft server environment, Active Directory, DHCP server, network infrastructure; firewall (FortiClient), experience in the field of IT security/cybersecurity, particularly in the securing of networks and endpoints. • Additional knowledge in database management (e.g., Filemaker Pro 2019), Linux, and standard applications in the research environment (EndNote, Adobe Suite, GraphPad, Prism, Zoom, Microsoft365 suite) is an advantage. • Very good oral and written language skills in German and English. • A self-dependent, goal-oriented, precise, and service-oriented way of working. • Enjoyment in developing new solutions and working in an interdisciplinary team. • Willingness to undergo further training. <br /> Your benefits <br /> • Internationally positioned teams and employment conditions according to cantonal guidelines <br /> Team-oriented work Central location in the heart of Bern Healthy corporate culture and good working atmosphere Working at UniBE The University of Bern not only offers exciting tasks but also an environment that actively promotes development, diversity, and equal opportunities.
