Laboratory Technician

Laboratory Technician Mission The Living Patterns Laboratory and the Laboratory of Statistical Biophysics within the Faculty of Fundamental Sciences at EPFL are looking for a highly organized and detail-oriented laboratory technician to support their interdisciplinary research programs. The selected candidate will play a central role in the daily operations of the laboratories, including the maintenance of biological cultures and experimental resources, the preparation of reagents and media, as well as the coordination of purchasing and equipment maintenance. They will also contribute to research activities at the interface of biology and physics. The position requires excellent organizational skills, meticulous record-keeping, and the ability to communicate scientific and technical information clearly and precisely. Main tasks and responsibilities • Coordinate the daily functioning of the laboratories, including purchasing, inventory management, equipment maintenance, and the organization of shared spaces and resources. • Develop and maintain laboratory documentation, organizational systems, and standard operating procedures to ensure safe, efficient, and reproducible work. • Maintain the laboratory's cell cultures and stocks, including bacteria, yeast, ciliates, and *Chlamydomonas*, ensuring their health, traceability, and long-term preservation. • Participate in a shared rotation covering weekends and public holidays to maintain laboratory cultures, in accordance with EPFL regulations. • Prepare buffers, culture media, reagents, and stock solutions for cellular and *in vitro* experiments, ensuring consistency and accurate documentation. • Support established experimental protocols and contribute to the development of new laboratory procedures. • Ensure compliance with laboratory safety rules, biosafety, and institutional regulations. • Facilitate communication and coordination between the two research groups and contribute to a collaborative and multidisciplinary research environment. Profile • * CFC or equivalent diploma, bachelor's or master's in biology, biochemistry, or related fields • Practical experience in a biological laboratory, preferably including the maintenance of cell cultures or microorganisms and the preparation of buffers, media, and reagents. • Excellent organizational skills and meticulous attention to detail. • Ability to manage multiple priorities and work effectively in a dynamic research environment. • Ability to follow established protocols and accurately document procedures, samples, and experimental results. • Ability to communicate scientific information and experimental results in a clear and structured manner. • Ability to work independently while contributing effectively to collaborative and interdisciplinary teams. • Willingness and ability to regularly participate in a planned rotation covering weekends and public holidays. • Proficiency in common digital tools and laboratory data management (e.g., Microsoft Office, GitHub, electronic laboratory notebooks, data management platforms). • Proficiency in English, both written and spoken.
