It directs all procedural steps, investigates criminal offenses, and requests the order of coercive measures such as pre-trial detention or telephone monitoring if this is necessary for clarification. For minor to medium criminal offenses, the Staatsanwaltschaft sanctions these directly by issuing penal orders. For serious criminal offenses, it files and represents the indictment in court.
