To this end, it monitors the application of federal provisions regarding data protection, and can notably open investigations and take measures to end unlawful data processing. On the other hand, by virtue of the law on transparency in administration, the PFPDT is competent for all matters affecting the principle of transparency and access to official documents of the federal administration. Its main task consists of conducting mediation procedures between citizens and authorities when the latter have refused access to an official document.
