Mass Spectrometry Technician The Institute of Chemistry at the University of Zurich consists of over 20 research groups and includes approx. 300 employees and students who carry out intensive research and teaching in the areas of Life Sciences, energy research and other chemical fields. The institute has central facilities for research as well as a diverse, shared infrastructure including analytical laboratories: HTEL, X-Ray, NMR and mass spectrometry. The Department of Mass Spectrometry & General Analytics supports the research activities in the Institute of Chemistry and mainly performs analyses of synthetic substances using chromatography, mass spectrometry and combustion analysis. Mass Spectrometry Technician Tasks Ensuring the daily business of the Mass Spectrometry department: method developments, routine analyses and evaluations, supervision of the Open Access area and user training/support Supporting the research activities of the Mass Spectrometry department: investigation of complex samples, technical project consultancy and support in the interpretation of data Care and maintenance of the devices and the infrastructure: maintenance work, repairs, mass calibrations, care of the spare parts warehouse as well as communication with manufacturers and service technicians Maintenance of the databases for the service operation and maintenance of the Open Access server "Chromeleon" Care of the website of the new technology platform Profile Apprenticeship as Laborant:in EFZ specializing in chemistry as well as completed further training as Naturwissenschaftliche:r Labortechniker:in HFP (or equivalent) or a completed degree (FH) in the field of (analytical) chemistry (or equivalent) at least 5 years of professional experience in LC/GC-MS and sample preparation good knowledge of chromatography, "high-resolution" mass spectrometry, quantification and data processing good knowledge of molecular properties and reactivities very good German and English skills in speaking and writing very good IT skills: experience in dealing with Windows computers, mass spectrometry software and databases (e.g. Chromeleon) high level of independence, flexibility and resilience highly responsible, reliable and solution-oriented way of working We offer Our employees benefit from diverse and attractive offers.
