Sub-project Manager Digital Twin Platform (m/f/d)

In the "Digital Twin" program, ETH Zürich is developing the forward-looking, digital foundation for the planning, construction, and operation of its infrastructure and building portfolio. To this end, a Digital Twin Platform is being created as a central system, data, and integration architecture, which connects specialist systems, information models, and operational data throughout the entire building lifecycle. For this key role, we are looking for a personality as Sub-project Manager Digital Twin Platform. The position is initially fixed-term until 30 April 2029. Project Background The "Digital Twin" program, with a runtime until the end of 2028, pursues the goal of networking and making information from planning, construction, and operation usable throughout the entire lifecycle of buildings and infrastructure. The Digital Twin Platform forms the technical basis for the integration of specialist systems, information models, and operational data. It deliberately does not follow a classic Data Lake or Data Warehouse approach, but instead relies on an open and scalable information, integration, and metadata architecture based on standardized interfaces, common information structures, and as many open technologies as possible. Job Description You will lead the design of the construction and further development of the Digital Twin platform of ETH Zürich and, together with an interdisciplinary core team, develop a pioneering foundation for data- and model-driven infrastructure management. In doing so, you are responsible for the further development of the platform as a central system, data, and integration architecture. You ensure that it remains scalable, expandable, and stably operable in the long term and create the technical requirements for its sustainable operation. A further focus of your work lies on the implementation of Digital Twin use cases. You integrate specialist systems, information models, as well as meta- and operational data, and develop solutions that intelligently network existing and future system landscapes. Together with the specialist departments and the Advanced Data Analytics unit, you create the foundation for data-based analyses, visualizations, and new digital services. You work confidently at the interface of specialist departments, IT services, and external technology partners. In doing so, you define technical requirements for procurements and implementation projects, accompany their introduction, and provide technical guidance to external implementation partners. Furthermore, you actively shape the data and information management. Together in the DT team, we further develop data, metadata, and governance structures and ensure that information is available in a traceable, usable, and quality-assured manner in the long term. Profile • Sound practice in the conception, development, and realization of scalable system, data, and integration architectures throughout the entire lifecycle • Ideally coupled with experience in the environment of planning, construction, operation, or sustainable development of buildings and infrastructures. • Confident action at the interface of specialist processes, information models, data and integration architectures, as well as modern platform and technology landscapes • Deep understanding of how reliable, scalable information and decision bases for analytics, automation, and future AI applications arise from networked systems, data, and models • Readiness to take responsibility, make sound decisions, and effectively advance complex projects together with internal and external partners • Independent, pragmatic, and solution-oriented way of working with the ability to maintain an overview even in demanding and dynamic environments • Clear, audience-appropriate, and appreciative communication in German and English The combination of requirements united in this role is deliberately demanding.
