System Engineer Unix In order for our services to run securely and stably, we require a state-of-the-art and reliable infrastructure. This is operated by us ourselves in Switzerland. As a System Engineer, you are responsible, together with your team, for the maintenance, further development, and renewal of our diverse systems such as various storages, networks, and the entire software stack. You understand and help design the infrastructure with its services and technologies in the foreground and background of Hostpoint together with your colleagues. This also includes the evaluation, engineering, and introduction of new services and concepts. Systems security, both in technological ("Security") and operational aspects ("Robustness"), is always at the center of your work. Therefore, monitoring, early detection of threats, as well as reacting to and closing security vulnerabilities, are also part of the tasks in engineering. In doing so, you work closely with the System Operations Team. Your tasks You take care of the renewal and further development of our infrastructure and help with its maintenance. This includes our web, DB, and mail clusters, our distributed storage systems, the network, and many other components. In project teams, you plan, develop, and integrate new services and technologies from conception through launch to operation. You are co-responsible for the continuous guarantee of security. In addition to "Engineering for Security," this also includes the assessment of and reaction to threats, security vulnerabilities, or incidents. You document the systems from the developed concept to the actual implementation, as well as the necessary disaster and recovery scenarios, and integrate them into our comprehensive monitoring. Together with the System Operations Team, you manage and maintain our systems from configuration management to rollout, as well as reacting to errors, debugging, and adapting the (mostly) used Open Source software. The enormously broad spectrum of tasks is covered within the teams with focus topics. The areas of responsibility are flexible and are adapted depending on the project, your strengths, interests, and your experience. Your profile Typically, you have a completed degree in Computer Science FH or are a dedicated and experienced self-made Unix techie. You possess sound know-how in the areas of Unix and the Internet. You are curious, enjoy technology immensely, and have a passion for understanding things. You have a solid understanding of network technologies and have no hesitation regarding application protocols such as SMTP, HTTP, PROXY, NFS, or TLS. You have experience in handling shells and scripting languages. Your good ability to abstract as well as your analytical, independent, and critical thinking with a flair for clean concepts distinguish you. You bring a high sense of responsibility, initiative, and an independent way of working. Your written and spoken expression in German is proficient for everyday use and you have good English skills.
