The Police and Identification Systems (SPI) management domain of fedpol ensures the secure operation and development of central databases and information systems, serves as a hub for the exchange of police information and provides forensic and identification services to Swiss and foreign partner authorities. The Identity Documents and Central Services Division fulfills the legal tasks of the Confederation regarding identity documents and weapons and explosives law. It assumes high-level surveillance and market surveillance, the issuance and development of identity documents and e-ID related solutions as well as the analysis of abuse and falsification and the fight against them. It includes the central offices for weapons and explosives and the Identity Documents, Digital Technology, Public Key Standards and Infrastructures (DSP), Technology, Development and Analysis (TEA) and State Identity Service (SID) domains.
