In doing so, he supervises the application of federal data protection regulations. He can, in particular, initiate investigations and take measures to remedy the unlawfulness of data processing. On the other hand, according to the Federal Act on Freedom of Information, the EDÖB is the competence center for all questions in connection with the principle of transparency and access to official documents in the Federal Administration. His main task is the management of mediation procedures between citizens and authorities when they have not granted access to an official document.
